BIOGRAPHY

Born in Loughborough, UK, to British and Spanish parents, Mel’s identity is deeply rooted in both cultures. She spent her childhood between England and Tenerife, Spain—an island that launched her music career at the age of twelve, making her one of Tenerife’s early public performers in the mid-1980s.

Her early career saw her collaborating with songwriters and producers Mike Myers, Danny Saxon, and Jim Dooley, an opportunity that opened doors to industry legends Phil Ramone and Mike Appel in the United States. Her professional growth continued as she co-wrote and recorded music for TV and radio in London, including Jazz FM, Classic FM, and Kiss FM. Mel quickly became known for her exceptional vocal ability and her distinctive sound.

A later introduction to Aswad’s lead singer Brinsley Forde led to her collaboration with producer and writer Tony Delaney (Liberty-X), resulting in several releases. Mel also wrote and recorded with the rock band Rime under the production of George DeAngelis.  Mel is a seasoned live vocalist whose journey has been shaped by years of performing for diverse audiences across Spain and the UK. From an early age, she developed her craft not behind closed doors but on real stages, honing her voice, presence and connection through hundreds of live performances. Her experience spans intimate pubs, elegant hotels, lounge and cocktail bars, private events, concerts, festivals and full-scale live venues, giving her a rare versatility and instinct for reading a room.

Comfortable moving effortlessly between sophisticated jazz and soul settings and high-energy rock environments, Mel delivers performances with authenticity, emotional depth and commanding stage presence. Influenced by powerful female vocal traditions yet unmistakably her own artist, she brings warmth, grit and storytelling to every set. Years of active gigging have shaped a performer who understands that great live music is not simply heard, it is felt.

Mel’s singer-songwriter journey mirrors the chapters of her life, each expressed through evolving genres, styles, and experiences. She has published a book reflecting this artistic and personal evolution.

Alongside her music career, Mel trained and qualified as a licensed psychotherapist in the UK, integrating her passion for musicians’ wellbeing into her work. She brings these worlds together through her podcast, Facing Mel’s Music, where she interviews musicians and actors from across the globe. Her mission is to illuminate both the challenges of pursuing a music career and the importance of nurturing mental health and spirituality.

Mel finds writing deeply therapeutic and often receives songs through vivid dreams, describing them as “arriving as a gift.” Her Master’s degree comprised a portfolio consisting entirely of her dream-inspired works.

With an extensive and ever-growing catalogue of songs, Mel continues to write, create, and champion the emotional wellbeing of artists globally.
